Who owns bakers delight

Today, the global business remains family-owned and operated and directly employs almost people with a further 8,, bakers and sales staff employed across more than bakeries. Talking to the future, Joint CEO David Christie — husband to Elise — believes the strong reputation of the business will drive continued profitable growth for current franchisees, further franchise opportunities in North America, along with different offerings locally.

We are working towards our American footprint being similar to Australia, which could see us having more than stores. In , Roger and Lesley owned 15 bakeries.

With our franchising concept firmly in place we had opened 20 bakeries in our tenth year. This number was set to grow significantly in the following years. The first interstate bakery was opened in the city of churches.

We were excited to bring our delicious, fresh bread to Adelaide. We released our first ever TV commercial to the public, which showcased our delicious products and wonderful staff. This also marks the first use of our iconic Bakers Delight jingle! We grew further to establish bakeries nationally and opened Sydney in April , Brisbane in September and Perth in March Bakers Delight was now well on our way to becoming an Australian icon. Founded in May by husband and wife team Roger and Lesley Gillespie, Bakers Delight has since become one of the great Australian business success stories and has since grown to become a multi-national company with over stores in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the US.

As a third generation baker, Roger had baking in his blood so the couple were reasonably confident that opening their first store in Hawthorn, Victoria would be a good business venture. With the bakery trading well, the Gillespies invested in a second bakery, then a third and before they knew it, they were running more than a dozen bakeries across Melbourne. Upon graduating Lesley taught at Loreto Mandeville Hall Toorak for around 10 years, juggling teaching, two new babies and her role on the board of Bakers Delight.

Hard work and no fear of failure have led Lesley and Roger onto a highly successful international business through Bakers Delight which they founded in Bakers Delight is now a large franchise organisation with a strong community base.
